Zyset tablet contains Ondansetron, which belongs to the anti-emetics class of drugs that help people stop feeling or being nauseous. It's used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by cytotoxic therapy and radiotherapy, as well as nausea and vomiting after surgery. This medication works by preventing the brain's serotonin levels from causing nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy or other procedures. The release of serotonin from the enterochromaffin cells of the small intestine is triggered by cytotoxic treatment. The released serotonins activate the vomiting reflex by stimulating the vagal afferents via the 5-HT3 receptors. Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that blocks serotonin in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and peripherally on vagal nerve terminals. It works by preventing the brain from producing serotonin, which induces nausea and vomiting during cancer treatment (chemotherapy) or following surgery.
