Xone XP Injection is used for the management of the following health conditions:

• Lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia

• Urinary tract infections

• Pelvic inflammatory disease

• Bacterial septicemia, a severe infection spreading through the bloodstream

• Bone and joint infections

• Intra-abdominal infections occurring within the abdomen

• Meningitis, an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord

• Skin and skin structure infections involving deeper layers of skin or associated tissues

• Surgical prophylaxis to prevent post-surgical infections.

Here are some instructions to follow when administering Xone XP Injection:

• This medicine is to be administered as a slow intravenous infusion over 30 minutes.

• It can alternatively be given as an intramuscular injection if intravenous administration is not possible.

• Ensure that the medicine is administered by a healthcare professional only.

Xone XP Injection is administered intravenously or via an intramuscular route.

Xone XP Injection contains two active ingredients:

• Ceftriaxone (125 mg): As a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, ceftriaxone works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins within the bacteria, disrupting the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for the cell wall’s strength and rigidity. This leads to a weakening of the bacterial cell wall which ultimately causes bacterial cell lysis.

• Tazobactam (15.625 mg): This beta-lactamase inhibitor protects ceftriaxone from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. By binding irreversibly to these enzymes' active sites, tazobactam prevents them from breaking down ceftriaxone and enhances ceftriaxone's activity against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant.

• Store Xone XP Injection in a cool, dry place.

• Avoid exposing the vial to light and moisture.

• Keep out of reach of children.

• Always check the expiry date before use; do not use beyond this date.

• If you have a urinary tract infection (UTI), increase your intake of water and other fluids. This helps flush out bacteria from your system and aids recovery.

• In bacterial pneumonia, refrain from smoking and avoid exposure to passive smoke. This reduces the strain on your lungs and facilitates faster recovery.
