Composition

Betamethasone (4 Mg) + Phenols (0.5 %)

Betnesol Injection belongs to the group of medicines called anti-inflammatory agents. It is used for various diseases requiring corticosteroid therapy, such as bronchial asthma and severe allergic reactions, including reactions to drugs.

It is also used to treat local inflammation of joints, tendons or the eye. Severe shock arising from surgical or accidental trauma can also be treated with this injection.

This injection is also used to replace the body’s naturally occurring corticosteroid hormones when these are reduced or absent.

Some side effects may be noted with the administration of this injection, which should be timely informed to a doctor. Any allergy to this injection, existing diseases and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before this injection is prescribed to you.

Betnesol Injection is used in the following conditions:

Bronchial asthma: Betnesol Injection helps reduce airway inflammation and alleviate asthma symptoms like wheezing and shortness of breath.
Severe hypersensitivity reactions/anaphylaxis: This injection suppresses severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis by inhibiting the immune response.
Rheumatoid arthritis: The inflammation and pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune joint disease, can also be alleviated with this injection.
Severe shock arising from surgical or accidental trauma or overwhelming infection: This injection is also used In cases of severe shock resulting from surgical procedures or accidental trauma.
Acute adrenal crisis: This injection is also used in acute adrenal crisis caused by abnormal stress in Addison's disease, Simmond's disease, hypopituitarism following adrenalectomy, and when adrenocortical function has been suppressed by prolonged corticosteroid therapy.
Soft tissue lesions: Betnesol Injection can also be used to manage soft tissue injuries and inflammatory conditions. It reduces inflammation, relieves pain, and promotes the healing of soft tissue lesions like tennis elbow, tenosynovitis, and bursitis.

Directions for Use of Betnesol Injection 1ml

A healthcare professional should administer Betnesol Injection under the supervision of a doctor. It is not recommended to be self-administered.

Betnesol Injection is administered intravenously.

The prolonged use of Betnesol Injection in high dosage may cause osteoporosis, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, cataracts, skin thinning, and glaucoma. The common side effects of taking this injection include:

Headache
Mood swings
Difficulty sleeping
Skin redness or discolouration
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhoea
Stomach pain

Managing the Side Effects:

All the above-mentioned side effects resolve on discontinuation of the injection and are temporary and, in the majority of cases, do not require medical attention. If you experience severe or persistent side effects from this injection, consult your doctor.

Betnesol Injection contains the following component:

Betamethasone (4 mg): It is a corticosteroid. It reduces skin inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, reducing symptoms like redness, itching, and discomfort associated with various skin conditions.

Pregnancy

Betnesol Injection should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is recommended not to take this injection during pregnancy until prescribed by a doctor.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding women should cautiously take Betnesol Injection. This injection is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. Inform your doctor before taking this injection while breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Alcohol is not recommended after receiving Betnesol Injection. It can worsen the side effects of this injection.

Liver

Betnesol Injection should be used cautiously in patients with liver disease. If you have liver impairment, inform your doctor before taking this injection.

Kidney

When taking Betnesol Injection, patients with kidney disease should exercise caution. If you have a kidney problem, it is advisable to inform your doctor before taking it.

Using Machines & Driving

Betnesol Injection is not expected to affect your ability to operate machinery or drive a vehicle. You may safely drive or use machinery after taking this injection.

Allergy

If you are allergic to betamethasone you should not take Betnesol Injection. Read the label and check the ingredients before taking this injection to avoid allergic reactions.

Children

Betnesol Injection can be given to infants less than one year of age. They may require a smaller dose. Your doctor will guide you about the dose according to your child’s age.

Older Patients

Older patients should cautiously take Betnesol Injection. They are more susceptible to side effects of this injection. Older patients may also be taking other medications that can interact with this injection. Inform your doctor about your health conditions and discuss your prescription medications before taking this injection.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Betnesol Injection can interact with medications, including:

Antihypertensives such as ephedrine. The effect of this injection may be reduced by ephedrine.
Anti-tuberculosis medications such as rifampicin. The effect of this injection may be reduced by rifampicin.
Anti-epilepsy medications such as carbamazepine and phenytoin. These medications may reduce the effect of this injection.
Protease inhibitors such as ritonavir. The concomitant use can increase the effect of this injection.
Pharmacokinetic boosters such as cobicistat. The concomitant use can increase the effect of this injection.
Barbiturates such as phenobarbitone. The effect of this injection may be reduced by phenobarbitone.
Antifungals such as itraconazole. The concomitant use can increase the blood concentration of this injection.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Betnesol Injection can interact with diseases, including:

Severe depression: This injection may cause depression as a rare side effect and worsen the existing condition.
Diabetes mellitus: Corticosteroids may worsen diabetes mellitus.
Osteoporosis: This injection may worsen the existing condition.
Hypertension: This injection may worsen the existing hypertension.
Glaucoma: This injection may worsen the existing condition.
Tuberculosis: This injection may impair the ability to resist and counteract infection.
Psychosis: This injection may worsen the existing condition.
Epilepsy: This injection may worsen the existing condition.
Electrolyte imbalance: This injection may alter the electrolyte imbalance.
Fluid retention: This injection may lead to fluid retention and worsen the condition.
Hypothyroidism: This injection is not recommended if you have an underactive thyroid gland. It can worsen your condition.
Infection: This injection may worsen the existing infection.
Liver disease: In patients with liver failure, blood levels of this injection may be increased.
Myasthenia gravis (Muscle weakness): This injection may cause muscle weakness and worsen the condition.
Peptic ulcers: This injection may develop the peptic ulcer or aggravate it.

Daily Dose

Take Betnesol Injection as directed by your doctor. The dosage may vary with the severity of the condition and response to treatment.

Over Dose

Acute overdosage with Betnesol Injection is very unlikely to occur. However, in the case of chronic overdosage or prolonged use, the symptoms of hypercortisolism or Cushing syndrome (excessive level of the hormone cortisol in the body), may appear. During this condition, the injection should be discontinued slowly.

Missed Dose

Your doctor will provide the instructions on when to give you this injection. It is unlikely that you will not be given the medicine as it has been prescribed. However, if you think you missed a dose, tell your doctor.

Store this medicine at a temperature below 30 ºC.
Protect it from direct sunlight.
Keep Betnesol Injection away from children.

Corticosteroids can increase the risk of osteoporosis, so increase vitamin D intake to support bone health. Consult with your doctor before starting these supplements.
This injection may affect blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes or are at risk, monitor your sugar intake and choose complex carbohydrates over simple sugars.
This medication may cause sodium retention, leading to fluid retention and increased blood pressure. Limit your sodium intake to manage these conditions.
