Tropicamide is predominantly used in ophthalmology to dilate the pupils and temporarily paralyse the focusing muscles in the eyes during diagnostic procedures and surgical preparations. It belongs to the anticholinergic class of medication.
It is also used in the management of post-operative conditions after eye surgeries and the treatment of certain inflammatory eye conditions like uveitis.

Tropicamide is an anticholinergic agent.
It works by inhibiting the action of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors in the eye. This action relaxes the sphincter muscle of the iris, causing the pupil to dilate. This makes it easier to examine the inside of the eye.
