Tirofiban

Uses of Tirofiban

  • Tirofiban is primarily used to manage serious heart conditions such as unstable angina (severe chest pain) and reduced blood flow to the heart. It belongs to the class of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors.

  • It is also indicated for patients at high risk of having a heart attack due to the formation of blood clots in the coronary arteries.

Side effects of Tirofiban

  • Bleeding

  • Low blood platelet count

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Pain at the injection site

How Tirofiban works

  • Tirofiban is an antiplatelet medicine.

  • It works by attaching itself to glycoprotein IIb/IIIa on the surface of blood platelets, which prevents the platelets from sticking together to form blood clots, ensuring smooth blood flow to the heart.
