Contraindications

• Timolol is contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma or a history of bronchial asthma. This medicine is also contraindicated in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sinus bradycardia, second or third-degree atrioventricular block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, and hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Timolol may interact with oral beta-blockers (such as propranolol and metoprolol), calcium channel blockers (such as amlodipine and verapamil), catecholamine-depleting medicines (like reserpine and amphetamine) and calcium antagonists (like diltiazem and amlodipine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• In case you happen to put a few extra drops of this medicine in your eye, do not panic. Rinse your eyes with clean water at room temperature. If any symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor.

• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, avoid repeating the dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Try dosing at a different time when you can rest your eyes afterwards for side effects like burning and stinging.

• Wait until your vision clears before performing any activity that requires sharp vision.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Timolol may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these activities if you feel dizzy, drowsy or experience blurred vision after taking this medicine.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• The use of Timolol in pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding should only be considered if needed as it may cause potential harm to the foetus or nursing infant. It is always advisable to consult your doctor before using this medication during pregnancy or lactation.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with cerebrovascular insufficiency should exercise caution when using Timolol due to its potential effects on blood pressure and heart rate.

• Extra care is also needed in patients with diabetes, hyperthyroidism and myasthenia gravis.

• Regular eye check-ups are essential to monitor the condition.

• Limit caffeine intake as it can increase eye pressure.
