Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Sparfloxacin or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

• It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone administration.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Sparfloxacin can interact with antacids containing aluminium or magnesium (such as aluminium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate), antiarrhythmics (such as amiodarone and quinidine), corticosteroids (like prednisone), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and naproxen).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Sparfloxacin may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and heart rhythm disturbances. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.

• If a dose of the medicine is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects are temporary, generally harmless, and resolve upon discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• For patients experiencing gastrointestinal issues like diarrhoea or nausea, taking the medicine with a light meal or snack may help.

• If you experience dizziness, avoid sudden changes in posture and rest until the dizziness resolves.

• If you develop photosensitivity, avoid excessive sun exposure and wear protective clothing and sunscreen.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Sparfloxacin may cause dizziness and affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. If you experience these side effects, avoid such tasks until the effects subside.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Sparfloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if medically prescribed and if its benefits justify the potential risks to the foetus.

• Taking this medicine while breastfeeding should be avoided, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the infant.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Sparfloxacin should be used with caution in patients with liver disease, as dosage adjustment may be needed.

• Caution should also be exercised in patients with heart problems, as it may cause QT prolongation, a condition affecting heart rhythm.
