Repaglinide is primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes in adults. It belongs to a class of medications known as meglitinides that help control blood sugar levels.
Hypoglycemia
Upper respiratory tract infection
Headache
Sinusitis
Diarrhoea
Repaglinide is an antidiabetic medication that falls under the category of meglitinides.
It acts by binding and closing the ATP-dependent potassium channels on pancreatic beta cells. This action causes the cell to depolarise, triggering a calcium influx. The influx of calcium stimulates the beta cells to release more insulin into the bloodstream. This insulin then facilitates the uptake of glucose by peripheral tissues and puts a stop to hepatic glucose production, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. The action of Repaglinide is glucose-dependent, which means when blood glucose levels are higher, more insulin is released.
