Reboxetine

Uses of Reboxetine

  • Reboxetine is primarily used to manage unipolar depression and belongs to the group of selective NRIs.

Side effects of Reboxetine

  • Dry mouth

  • Constipation

  • Headache

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Fatigue

How Reboxetine works

  • Reboxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI).

  • It operates by halting the reabsorption of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline, into the brain's neurones. By doing so, it increases the availability of norepinephrine in the gaps between neurones, enhancing the process of sending signals from one neurone to another through these neurotransmitters.

  • The heightened levels of norepinephrine are believed to positively influence mood and mitigate symptoms of depression.

  • Unlike certain other antidepressants, Reboxetine does not significantly affect serotonin levels.
