Contraindications

• Norfloxacin is contraindicated in individuals with known allergies to the medication or other quinolones. It should not be administered to those with a history of tendon disorders related to quinolone use.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Norfloxacin may interact with antigout agents (such as probenecid and colchicine), antacids (such as aluminium hydroxide), iron salts (like ferrous sulfate), zinc salts (such as zinc acetate) antiarrhythmic medicines (like amiodarone and sotalol), certain antibiotics (like erythromycin) and certain antipsychotics (like haloperidol).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• If you suspect an overdose of Norfloxacin, contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms may include gastrointestinal discomfort and central nervous system disturbances.

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary, generally harmless, and resolve after discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage nausea or an upset stomach that might occur with this medication, try taking it with food.

• Drinking plenty of fluids may help to alleviate headaches.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Norfloxacin may cause dizziness and affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. If you feel dizzy or unsteady, avoid these activities.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Norfloxacin is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation unless specifically advised by your doctor. Always consult your doctor before taking this medicine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with liver issues, kidney problems or a history of seizures should exercise caution when taking Norfloxacin, as dosage adjustment may be needed.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Maintain a good hydration level by drinking plenty of fluids while taking this medication, especially if you are experiencing diarrhoea.

• To prevent urinary tract infections, aim to urinate regularly and empty your bladder each time.

• Practise safe sex to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhoea, for which Norfloxacin is often used.
