Contraindications

• Midodrine should not be used in patients with certain medical conditions like high blood pressure when they are lying down, those who have an allergy to Midodrine or any of its components, and those who are already taking some types of vasoconstrictor agents or monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, substances that can interact with Midodrine and potentially cause harmful effects.

• This medicine may interact with antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), anticonvulsants (e.g., pregabalin), and antipsychotics (e.g., quetiapine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• If an overdose of Midodrine occurs, it can lead to symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and possibly blurred vision. In case of a suspected overdose, contact your doctor immediately for advice.
• If you miss a dose of Midodrine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drink plenty of fluids to help manage any problems with urination.
• Keep your skin moisturised to help alleviate itching.
• Wear appropriate clothing for the weather to help manage chills.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Midodrine can cause side effects such as dizziness or light-headedness. Due to this, it may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience these side effects, it is recommended to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you feel well enough.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is advised that pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers use Midodrine only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Please consult your doctor before using Midodrine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Midodrine should be used with caution in patients with severe heart disease, acute kidney injury, urine retention problems, pheochromocytoma (a rare tumour that causes high blood pressure), or thyrotoxicosis (an overactive thyroid gland).
• Elderly patients and those with liver or kidney problems should use Midodrine with caution. In these cases, dose adjustments may be necessary.
