• Levocetirizine can be taken orally (tablet and solution).

Age And Dose Restrictions 

• Adults and children can use it above 6 months of age. 

Contraindications 

• It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Levocetirizine. It is also contraindicated in patients with end-stage kidney disease and children 6 to 11 years of age with kidney impairment.

Other Medications To Avoid With This Medicine

• Avoid taking antidepressants (imipramine), anti-anxiety medications (buspirone), antiepileptics (carbamazepine), anti-HIV medications (ritonavir), sedatives (benzodiazepines), sleeping pills (alprazolam) and bronchodilators (theophylline). These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Levocetirizine.

Overdose And Missed Dose

• Overdose can cause drowsiness, anxiety and restlessness. These symptoms need to be managed as an emergency in a hospital setting. Therefore, strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential. 
• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Management Of Side Effects

• The side effects of Levocetirizine are generally harmless and resolve on discontinuation of the tablet. If you experience severe or persistent side effects from this tablet, consult your doctor for a possible treatment plan adjustment.

Use In Pregnancy And Lactation

• Caution is advised while taking Levocetirizine during pregnancy. It is not recommended during breastfeeding.

Caution In Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in patients who are unable to empty their bladder due to spinal cord injury or enlarged prostate and in patients with seizures or convulsions.

• Identify and avoid specific allergens that trigger your allergic rhinitis symptoms. Common triggers include pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold, and food allergens. 
• Take steps to minimise exposure to these allergens, such as keeping windows closed during high pollen seasons or using dust mite-proof covers for bedding.
• Wear a face mask before leaving the home, while dusting and even in the kitchen.
• Minimise alcohol consumption, as it may exacerbate specific side effects associated with these medications, such as drowsiness.
