Ispaghula + Lactulose

Uses of Ispaghula + Lactulose

  • Ispaghula + Lactulose is primarily used to manage chronic idiopathic constipation and belongs to a group of medications known as osmotic and bulk-forming laxatives.

  • It is also used to manage constipation associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and to maintain regular bowel function in patients who are prone to constipation.

Side effects of Ispaghula + Lactulose

  • Abdominal bloating

  • Flatulence (gas)

  • Abdominal cramps

  • Diarrhoea

  • Nausea

How Ispaghula + Lactulose works

  • Ispaghula is a bulk-forming laxative. It absorbs water in your intestines, increasing stool volume and softness. This encourages easier and more frequent bowel movements.

  • Lactulose is an osmotic laxative. It works by drawing water into your colon and being broken down by bacteria into short-chain fatty acids. These acids increase the stool's water content and softness.
