Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is primarily meant for women of child-bearing age for contraceptive and other hormonal purposes.

• It is not recommended for girls who have not yet begun menstruating.

Contraindications

• Women with kidney disease or kidney failure should not use this medicine.

• This medication is also not recommended for women who have adrenal disease, a history of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack.

• Women with unusual vaginal bleeding, known or suspected pregnancy, liver tumours, liver disease, breast cancer or a history of breast cancer should avoid using this medicine.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Drospirenone + Ethinyl Estradiol may interact with anticoagulants (such as warfarin, rivaroxaban), anti-seizure medications (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine), and medications affecting liver enzymes (such as ketoconazole, rifampin). It may also interact with antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, doxycycline) and anti-HIV medications (such as ritonavir, efavirenz).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on Drospirenone + Ethinyl Estradiol may result in nausea and vaginal bleeding. If you suspect an overdose, contact Poison Control immediately.

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Never take two doses at once.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of water may help manage side effects like headaches and nausea.

• Eating a balanced diet may help manage weight gain associated with this medication.

• Practicing good sleep hygiene can help manage mood changes associated with this medication.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This medication may cause dizziness or tiredness which might impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience these symptoms, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel well again.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Drospirenone + Ethinyl Estradiol should normally not be taken during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, the medication should be stopped immediately.

• It is also not recommended for breastfeeding women, as it may affect milk production.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Women who have migraines with aura, diabetes-related complications or uncontrolled high blood pressure should exercise caution when taking Drospirenone + Ethinyl Estradiol.

• Women who smoke and are over 35 years old should exercise caution as well.
