Desonide

Uses of Desonide

  • Desonide is primarily used to manage mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients 3 months of age and older. It is a part of the corticosteroid group of medicines.

  • It is also used for managing other inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and other steroid-responsive dermatoses.

Side effects of Desonide

  • Skin redness

  • Itching or irritation at the application site

  • Dryness of skin

  • Burning sensation

How Desonide works

  • Desonide is used to treat inflammation and itching.

  • Desonide is a topical corticosteroid.

  • It works by inducing proteins called lipocortins, which inhibit the release of arachidonic acid. This control process reduces the creation of inflammation causing substances like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Additionally, it suppresses the formation, dispersion, and activity of naturally occurring inflammatory chemicals in the body. Finally, it causes vasoconstriction, a narrowing of blood vessels in the skin. These collective actions effectively decrease inflammation, redness, itching and other symptoms associated with certain skin conditions.
