Cefprozil is a broad-spectrum, second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.
It operates by disrupting the construction of bacterial cell walls, which are essential for their survival and growth. Cefprozil does this by binding to and deactivating certain proteins called penicillin-binding proteins (or PBPs), located on the interior membrane of the bacterial cell wall. These PBPs are enzymes that play a crucial role in putting together and reshaping the bacterial cell wall during cell division. Inhibiting these PBPs impedes the cross-linkage of a vital component of bacterial cell walls, known as peptidoglycan. This inhibition weakens the cell wall, leads to cell disintegration or lysis, and eventually causes the bacterial cell to die.

Cefprozil can be taken orally (tablet and suspension).
Cefprozil can be administered to adults, adolescents aged 13 years and older, and paediatric patients from 6 months to 12 years.
Cefprozil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the medicine or other cephalosporin antibiotics.
Cefprozil may interact with probenecid (used to treat gout), and aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin, and neomycin).
In case of an overdose of Cefprozil, it is recommended to contact your doctor immediately. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps or seizures.

Regular handwashing and good personal hygiene practices can help prevent the spread of bacteria.
