Cefpodoxime Proxetil + Dicloxacillin is a combination of two antibiotics.
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It functions by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It attaches to and deactivates enzymes known as penicillin-binding proteins, playing a crucial role in the formation of bacterial cell walls. Consequently, this interruption results in the rupture and death of bacterial cells.
Dicloxacillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, also hinders the synthesis of bacterial cell walls but via a slightly different mechanism. It attaches to and deactivates transpeptidase enzymes that are responsible for interlinking peptidoglycans in the bacterial cell wall. This weakens the cell wall, causing the bacteria to burst open and die.
